Venom: The Last Dance

6/10

Venom: The Last Dance, written and directed by Kelly Marcel, is a movie that works best when it’s going absolutely balls to the wall insane and when it fully embraces its stupidity.  However, these moments are broken up by moments and side characters that have very, very little personality, one note.  The moments with Eddie Brock ( Tom Hardy) in Venom are the highlights of the film, as it is for the entire series. The trailer has theorized animals, and a lot of the action bits are very well done but last about as long as a film trailer. There are two groups of side characters. A family and a group of scientists studying the symbiotes. Both are uninteresting and have very little to do with Eddie Brock till the last 40 minutes. The scientists have plot points that are brought up that do not get resolved and quickly get dropped. These characters randomly get symbiotes, and most die in 30 seconds by the time they get these powers, resulting in an unfulfilling ending.  These characters also have moments that come out of nowhere, which are either funny or slightly annoying. This film needs a director's cut. I need a 3-hour cut because this film feels unfinished. I overall enjoyed my time with the film, when it fully embraces its silliness, it's a fun time that keeps you entertained, but when the film gets serious, it gets boring.
